Ihlanze Game Reserve, an iconic stretch of captivating terrain situated in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal countryside, is home to Saxony Wildlife Estate. This estate offers homeowners luxury bush living in homes specifically designed to disappear into the secluded landscape.
Sites available for purchase are limited to 49, ranging in size from 20 – 33 ha with a choice of views. Each property has been mapped by ecologists and areas that can accommodate buildings have been identified. The considered approach of Saxony Wildlife Estate has ensured that this distinctive offering remains true to its surroundings, providing experiential living as its core offering and ensuring a balanced relationship between land and human habitat.
Large and small wild animals roam freely between the scant residences in this expansive haven.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
As part of Saxony Wildlife Estate’s ongoing environmental responsibility initiatives, Peter Le Roux, a wildlife and environmental consultant, has been evaluating the property on a weekly basis ever since 2001. Peter, along with Chris Galliers – Conservation Manager for Conservation Outcomes and President of the International Ranger Federation – have and will continue to advise Saxony Wildlife Estate on the rehabilitation and sustainable wildlife management of the property.
They are the Environmental Control Officers (ECOs) who oversee an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) governing the development of the property and they report to the Department of Environmental Affairs. One of our ECOs will also sit on the Architectural Committee at Saxony Wildlife Estate to ensure that the environment will always have right of way.
This holistic approach has ensured that carrying capacities of the gated property are not exceeded, that food sources are sustained, soil erosion is prevented and invasive alien vegetation is monitored and removed with the competent assistance of the local communities in the Umgeni catchment area.
Annual animal censuses are recorded on the property’s established wildlife populations which include Wildebeest, Giraffe, Reedbuck, Eland, Kudu, Impala, Nyala, Zebra, Leopard, Hippo and Warthog as well as abundant birdlife and many other indigenous species.
Together, they’ve been appointed as the Environmental Control Officers (ECOs) who will oversee an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) governing the development of the property, and will report to the Department of Environmental Affairs in this regard every 6 months. One of our ECOs will also sit on the Architectural Committee at Saxony Estate to ensure that the environment will always have right of way.
